London — The Britain Nepal Chamber of Commerce (BNCC) has elected a new leadership team following its Annual General Meeting held on Friday at the Nepali Embassy in London, marking a renewed commitment to strengthening trade, investment, and economic cooperation between the United Kingdom and Nepal.
Travel entrepreneur Biraj Bhatta was unanimously elected as Chairman of the Chamber. A long-serving Vice-chairman, Bhatta brings extensive experience and continuity to the role. He will be supported by Vice-Chairmen Indra Giri and newly elected 2nd Vice-Chairman Kamal Paudel, while Rajendra Shrestha was elected to continue as Secretary.
While Steve Buckley was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber, the new executive committee comprises Prabhu Neupane, Krishna Bhatta, Santosh Mandal, Nadia Williams, Anjani Phuyal, Prakash Dhungana, Anil Neupane, Mosaud Angiz, BP Khanal, Basanta Nepal, Bikash Nepal, and Campbell Mitchell.
Addressing the meeting, BNCC Patron and Acting Ambassador of Nepal to the UK, Bipin Duwadi, congratulated the newly elected committee and expressed appreciation for the outgoing leadership’s service. He underscored the growing importance of UK–Nepal trade relations, describing Nepal as a strong and attractive destination for foreign investment. Ambassador Duwadi also confirmed that the Nepali Embassy in London is working closely with BNCC to promote trade and investment opportunities, highlighting the vital role of the Nepali diaspora in supporting Nepal’s economic development through business and investment.
Focus on investment, trade missions, and policy advocacy
Newly elected Chairman Biraj Bhatta said the Chamber would intensify efforts to engage a broader base of Nepali businesses across the UK while continuing to encourage increased investment in Nepal. Bhatta also reiterated BNCC’s intention to work closely with the Government of Nepal, the Nepali Embassy in London, and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office to advance the interests of Nepal and Nepali businesses. He thanked BNCC members and supporters for their continued cooperation and trust.
Reflections from outgoing leadership
Following the AGM, a dinner reception was held at the Embassy Hall. Outgoing President Kapil Rijal reflected on the Chamber’s founding mission to promote cooperation and mutual support among businesses, expressing confidence that the new leadership would build on this strong foundation. Founding member Mahanta Shrestha, Honorary President Adam Gilchrist, and other business leaders also shared their perspectives during the discussion.
Established in 1996, the Britain Nepal Chamber of Commerce has consistently played a key role in promoting trade, tourism, and investment between the United Kingdom and Nepal. With its new leadership in place, the Chamber is set to deepen bilateral ties and open new pathways for sustainable economic growth in both countries.
